Wellman Shew has witnessed a range of industry developments over the course of his long career in the employee benefits industry, as more organizations moved away from traditional pension models and toward new programs. Health insurance mandates prompted by the Affordable Care Act, as well as new marketplace choices that expanded the reach of benefit packages to the smallest California firms, were among the main shifts. Despite these significant changes, Shew has maintained his leadership position in the sector, as evidenced by personal profiles in industry journals.
Shew recently created a blog on his personal website, WellmanShew.com, detailing many elements of employee benefits and insurance in an effort to share his experience with other industry experts and customers. Health savings accounts, short-term and long-term disability insurance, high-deductible health plans, umbrella insurance, and how to save money on insurance have all been discussed recently. Consumer education is becoming increasingly important as plan options expand, allowing people to make the best decisions possible for their health and retirement.
